Tips and Tricks Blog Post – Digital Story Telling
For my tips and tricks blog post, I chose photography tips that I can easily apply in my daily life. I plan to use many of these techniques during our trip to Chile and Easter Island, where I’ll be taking plenty of photos. I want my pictures to turn out great, so hopefully, these tips will make a difference!
Visual Assignment #1 – Digital Story Telling
Visual Assignment #2 – Splash of Color – Digital Story Telling
Visual #3 – Shakespearean LOLcat – Digital Story Telling
For my visual assignments, I completed three (excluding my StoryMap): one worth 3 stars, one worth 3 ½ stars, and one worth 1 ½ stars. I really enjoyed these assignments because they gave me the opportunity to use tools like Canva, Pixlr, and Flickr, which I don’t typically use in my daily life. I also found this part of the unit especially rewarding since it allowed me to research Chile and Easter Island while searching for images—something that will be helpful for our trip!
Story Map – Digital Story Telling
For my StoryMap, I chose to map out all the stops we’ll be making throughout the week, starting and ending at the University of Mary Washington. This project was a great way to familiarize myself with our trip and each destination, including airports, hotels, and tours. It allowed me to research and visualize where we’ll be going and pinpoint the exact locations of our tours in both Chile and Easter Island. I excluded the free days since I’m not quite sure what I’ll be planning for those yet..
Photoblitzing – Digital Story Telling
Overall, I really enjoyed this unit on photography because it allowed me to start with the basics of capturing images and gradually progress into editing and enhancing them. Throughout the process, I also had the opportunity to research our upcoming trip, which made the assignments feel even more relevant and engaging.
One of the most fascinating aspects of this unit was exploring visual rhetoric and the art of storytelling through photography. Learning how to compose, edit, and refine my photos gave me a greater understanding of how visual communication plays a crucial role in storytelling.
Being able to develop and apply these skills over the past week has been both an exciting and valuable experience. Not only did I improve my technical abilities with tools like Canva, Pixlr, and Flickr, but I also learned how to think more critically about the meaning behind the images I create. I look forward to applying these techniques during our trip to Chile and Easter Island.
